ALDS Game 5: Cleveland Indians DH Edwin Encarnacion hopes to return vs. New York Yankees

Cleveland Indians designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion might be able to return for Game 5 of his team’s American League Division Series against the New York Yankees on Wednesday night.

Encarnacion, who sustained a right ankle sprain during Cleveland’s 9-8 extra-inning victory in Game 2, was unable to play in Cleveland’s 7-3 loss in Game 4 Monday in New York.

“I think so,” Indians manager Terry Francona told reporters Tuesday when asked if he believes Encarnacion will be healthy enough to play in the decisive game of the best-of-five series.

He went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in the first two games of the series before departing with the injury.

Encarnacion, a three-time All-Star who joined the Indians on a three-year deal worth $65 million last offseason, hit .258 with 38 home runs and 107 RBIs in his first year with Cleveland.
