Roseanne Barr's character to support Trump on 'Roseanne' revival

Jan. 9 (UPI) — Roseanne Barr says her character will support Donald Trump in the forthcoming Roseanne revival.

The 65-year-old actress said Monday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that it’s “realistic” for Roseanne Conner to have voted for the president.

“I’ve always tried to have it be a true reflection of the society we live in,” she said of the ABC sitcom, according to ABC News. “So I feel like half the people voted for Trump and half didn’t, so it’s just realistic.”

Barr explained she considers her character to be a part of “the working class people” who voted for Trump in November 2016.

“It was working class people that elected Trump so I felt that was very real and something that needed be discussed,” she said, according to Fox News.

Executive producer Bruce Helford said the revival will present different political views within the Conner family. He denied the show will have a specific “agenda.”

“We had a lot of discussions about all of our beliefs,” he said of the cast and crew. “We had to find a way for this particular family … to get that debate going in a very honest and a very real way.”

Barr is a real-life supporter of Trump who said in a since-deleted tweet Dec. 27 that she voted for the businessman to “shake up the status quo & the staid establishment.” She joked at the press tour, however, that she’d “probably” be a better president than the businessman.

Roseanne initially had a nine-season run from 1988 to 1997. The revival will feature Barr and returning stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Michael Fishman and Sara Gilbert, and premiere March 27.
